Capsule: "A Christmas Carol 3D"

A Christmas Carol 3D. A-
"I'll show them. All of them. Under my nighty."
A gee-whiz, technology-touting update on the seminal Dickens story of a dour businessman on Christmas eve, Robert Zemeckis has created a very exciting and enjoyable "Christmas Carol." Even though it may be called unnecessary, or shamelessly showy, (It's a $175 million dollar Disney film, at 96 minutes...) it's surprisingly inventive nonetheless. Thoroughly modern in its technical approach, Zemeckis offers a highly graphic, literal interpretation of Dickens ultimate holiday story. And the 3D only makes it all the more visceral, as we venture with Scrooge at lightning speeds through old London, as well as through his eyes in its dark corners. We go places, and see things never done in old-lit adaptation. And Carrey brings his credibility with the three ghosts and Scrooge's lifetime of experiences. Totally worthwhile. Just avoid the irony of hiked-up pricing for 3D goggles at a Scrooge movie...
