Muppet Memories

This week, /Film reported that not only does Disney have an attractive sounding script (from Jason Segel, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall") and a legitimate director (James Bobin, "Flight of the Conchords"), but the Muppets in fact have been greenlit and officially titled "The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time."

Ostentatious, that title may be. But come on! The muppets are coming back with a movie about show business, not unlike the original "Muppet Movie." Apparently the muppets have to stop their original studio from being bought by an unscrupulous oil man - easy enough to get into — and the whole Muppet story takes place within Hollywood. In other words, there could be A Lot of cool cameos! Like Steve Martin and Orson Welles in the first movie! Or Joan Rivers — shudder — in "Manhattan!" Oh the thought of Muppets returning to filmic glory.

But it got me wistful. I, like many a child, grew up with heavy fondness for the Muppets. Fozzy was my favorite, but I impersonate Kermit and Gonzo better, I think. My sister still wells up when she watches Kermit and Piggy get hitched in "Manhattan." And Mehna Mehna gets some iTunes play still.

With that, I want to share some of my favorite bits — mostly with celebs — from the Muppets.

Harry Belafonte goes Bananas:
Oh Fozzy. Wokka wokka.

Buddy Guy vs. Animal:
Honestly, more drummers need to scream and use their head (on the drums) like animal.

Richard Pryor knows how to get high:
Buy a balloon.

Drunk as the Swedish Chef:

OK, there's no logic, rhyme, or reason to picking this one. But HOLY SHIT is it funny!

BONUS ROUND: If you can watch this, without either your heart or your brain exploding, then you sir, are a champion.
I've got Beaker eyes now.

Come on now. You know you love the Muppets! Share it (clips and memories) in the comments.
