Frugal Theater: "Night of the Hunter"

Can't remember if it was the BFI, Empire or some other British film forum that declared "Night of the Hunter," the greatest thriller movie of all time, but, it matters not. After my sis asked me to list her some great suspense thrillers and/or psychological fare, I just happened to find that it was free on Hulu. Jings!

Charles Laughton's seminal masterpiece about a religious nut terrorizing two tots over his recent widow's fortune has lasted thanks to its creepy and and oddly believable premise, vaunted by Robert Mitchum's now iconic role as Harry Powell, the man with "LOVE/HATE" tattooed on his knuckles. Bonus points for film experts that can remember how "Hunter" was referenced in 1989.

So ch-ch-check it out. After you watch Mitchum get reeeal weird with it, you'll never trust a stepfather/religious nut/Robert Mitchum again...
