Post Stuff: Criterion on Laserdisc

Did you get the memo on this laserdisc business? Crazy. You can watch movies on a crystal-like record! And, you can pause, frame-by-frame view, and skip chapters. That's right. You can watch your favorite scenes in chapters! Take a look:
Oh Lenny. You shill-artist. Yeesh, to think of how far we've come in digital technology alone over the last two decades. I'm still pissed that I'm gonna have to go blu-ray, things are so quick.

But, who knew Criterion would actually live up to that name in home entertainment?

2 thoughts on Criterions and Laserdisc:
1. If I've read right, there was a "Ghostbusters" Criterion Laserdisc from the late 1980s, and it's the only reason I'm a hair's-breadth from buying a Laserdisc player and joining eBay. I don't care what the features are on the disc. I just want it. Do want. Next year, we'll try 8track. Because, you know, I'm like, uh, vintage.
2. I remember my neighbor Jon Klein, the spawn of a tool company magnate, having a stupefying home theater system, complete with a Laserdisc system. And the only movie I've ever watched on a Laserdisc — at least that I can remember — was "Christmas Vacation" before the holiday season. And it wasn't that impressive. What the hell were developers thinking? Same system as DVD, got it. But, you have to flip the disc halfway? No candid interviews with Chevy Chase being a condescending prick to cast and crew? How did we live?
