Post Stuff: "Miracle at St. Anna" Soundtrack

"We're here for the gang-bang? I mean, music burning party."
Maybe I'm in a sentimental way, but this soundtrack is just so beautiful. No. Really! Released in 2008, Spike Lee's "Miracle at St. Anna" was an ambitiously disastrous work. It has great moments, stunning imagery, thoughtful and spiritual drama, and race politics you seldom see in a war film. But it was just so damn messy.

Yet, out of the blood and the bodies and the Spike Lee racial hey hey hey, came a stunning score by Lee veteran and jazz artist Terence Blanchard ("Inside Man," "Jungle Fever"). The "St. Anna" score was venerable to classical compositions, sounding like Elmer Bernstein or John Barry or any studio war epic. Appropriately melodic and romantic for the meditative moments. Brassy, bold and confrontational for the fighting. A worthy, rapturous listen, from a totally overlooked film.

Oh, yeah, and Spike Lee rocks. And that's not just the white-guilt, Michael Rappaport, asshole talking. The man was taught by Scorsese at NYU!

Music! Listen to tracks 1, 5, 20, 23 and 24. Then go listen to some Aaron Copland?
