This is a list in response to Adrian Curry and Roger Ebert's claims of what the best posters for this decade (2000-2009) were. Curry's list was interesting, but it favored artistry and obscurity. Meanwhile, Ebert's list favored iconography a tad too much. As a disgraced film critic AND graphic designer, I felt compelled to scour the Internet Movie Poster Awards website, and try to make a good, objective list. I just nabbed as many posters that would stick in memory, and then trimmed it to 50. 50 sounds nice, right?
How'd I judge this list? It includes posters of:
- Pop cultural relevance. (The "High Fidelity" poster's as good as "Hard Day's Night")
- Influential design. (How many lifts have there been on "40-Year-Old-Virgin?")
- Creativity. ("Antichrist" does so much with so little.)
- Memorability. ("Orphan," forever brands upon the brain.)
- Beauty. ("Volver," uh, period.)
- Style. (Anything Soderbergh really.)
- And, of course, good use of text. That's hard. But look at "Black Sheep..."
Any glaring omissions? Bad taste in design? Questions as to why things made this list? Stick it in the comments.
So without further adieu, the 50 finest movie posters of the oughts. First, there's a slideshow of them all. Then you can click each for larger images.

tempted to think you'd have included batman movies solely on the premise of the name. =P
Yeah. And like those aren't the definitive action movie images of the decade? You gotta admit, the "Begins" poster with its tan and low-angle is really powerful, exciting, and now seemingly iconic.
Or would you rather I include something with Tom Cruise?
