Farewell Conan, and Funk You Tonight Show.

"Until he's working bachelor parties."
I'm saddened that Conan's going off the air for a while after tonight.

I've been watching Conan O'Brien in some way, shape or form since the late '90s. My older brother would record Conan's stuff on tape, and then bring it to me weeks later.

"Dude, you gotta see this dog, "Triumph," that's all like 'for me to poop on!' Dude, you have to see Conan have a staring contest with Andy, and Conan always cheats with like, two midgets pouring jell-o on each other behind him."

Just last summer, I showed one of those tapes to friends, and the the level of laughter hadn't decreased a bit. To this day, Conan is one of the funniest figureheads of television this side of "The Simpsons." Between the great writing, great use of celebs, and all around memorability of a bear masturbating in its diaper, Conan's a freaking genius. A shocker-red haired goon too, but a genius nonetheless. It's a shame about NBC ("nuttin' but cocks") and "The Tonight Show" being given back to Chin-zilla. Freakish fans like myself will miss Conan's exuberance and intelligence.

At least, we'll miss him until he kicks ass at Fox, or Comedy Central or Bar Mitvahs.

With that, I encourage you to watch his last "Tonight Show" episode tonight, and never watch it again. At least, till he's back. So because he was given only 7 months:

7 Reasons I'll miss Conan O'Brien on TV ... til he finds his next gig.

1. You can never put Coco in a corner.

2. His content was classic (stupid good). And better written than you'd think ... not that this clip exemplifies grand writing or anything...

3. Conan got great mileage from his guests.

4. Unlike Jay's band, Conan tied with Dave for quality and comradery in his band.

5. Conan really hated old people.

6. Andy Richter was a game and gifted sidekick.

7. Conan O'Brien is a consumate entertainer and performer.

See you soon Coco.

A wonderful tribute - evidence of a heartfelt admiration for a cornerstone of television comedy.

Well done, Blake.

Excellent post but you forgot one of the top reasons Conan is so great. One of, if not the, best interviewers in the history of late night television.

Still one of my favorite moments in the history of television:
