I Have a Dream: Hopkins

I knew I'd ruin his mind eventually.

But Hopkins posted this on FB yesterday, and being the ego-stroker that I am, I feel compelled to share this ish with you all. It's kinda freakin' awesome, and totally fulfills my delusions of grandeur:

Matt Hopkins

Matt Hopkins You can call this creepy, I don't care. Last night you were in my dream, along with Conan. You and I were hanging out in a post office (wtf, right?) and Conan walked in. For some reason he recognized you and you guys immediately started doing improv in the lobby of the building. I don't remember much else; however, Conan was markedly more racist than he is in real life.

Ha!

Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day, Ya Filthy Animals

A Few Thoughts on This Day:

1. I'm not Irish, at all. I've often asserted that whatever Irish I have in me, the .08 percent that I have each year, is acquired through stereotypical drinking. Or someone was raped long ago... But have a happy holiday nonetheless!

2. I missed the Chicago River being dyed green. Dang.

3. There like, a Patty's Pub anyone wants to meet up with me at?

4. Sean Connery was Scottish right?

5. Have jokes about Irish, Chicago cops gone out of style?

6. Any chicks out there wearing those stupid flippy rings in a way that allows me to hit on you?

7. Fuck "Boondock Saints." I'm willing to fight over that shit.

8. Had a Second City classmate bemoan the fact that there was no South Side Irish parade last Sunday. I mean, it's only like, what, 60 arrests? That jackass I saw on ABC looked like he was having a good time.

9. Any green pukes you wanna share in the comments? I'll tell you about that that Chick and all that Guiness, '07, if you're interested. Put it in the comments.

10. Watch this and have a good green, if not probably grey day:

Editorial Note: It's damn sunny outside!

Post Stuff: Conan O'Brien - Bartender

Debate with me the positive and negative affects of alcohol later. This is GD funny, and Conan doing on-site as good as he ever did.

Here it comes CHOPPA!!! AWWWOOOOOO!!!!

Post Stuff: Andy's Little Sister

I'm still hung up on that whole Conan fiasco last month. But, if there's any solace or comfort to be found in the situation, it's the fact that Youtube has been getting tons of "Late Night" table scraps. Feuding Lincolns, alternative cable channels, Abe Vigoda abuse, interviews with Norm MacDonald and the seemingly legendary staring contests. All legit, classic moments in Television history. Don't believe me, or aren't a Coco fan? Find the Rebecca Romijn interview (Greeny put a link in the last Conan piece), or the old time baseball onsite bit.

But, among the many gold nuggets to be found on old Youtube (I stay up waaay too late), is the seeming involvement of Upright Citizens' Brigade founders in those first years. Specifically, Amy Poehler showed us her stripes early on as Andy's psychotically enamored little sister Stacy. You see Poehler before the SNL neuter of her extremely loud and phsyical talents, as she barks and runs and goes wild. All of it, funnier than hell.

Enjoy.

Post Stuff: "Lookwell"

It's totally SNOWMG outside, and there's a 70% chance of indoor inhabitation. With that, might recommend some comfy TV watching through your computer?

Perhaps, the lost pilot for "Lookwell?"

This is Conan and Robert Smigel's ("Triumph the Insult Comic Dog") amazing pilot from the early '90s. Worth it for meta funny performance by Adam West:

Farewell Conan, and Funk You Tonight Show.

"Until he's working bachelor parties."
I'm saddened that Conan's going off the air for a while after tonight.

I've been watching Conan O'Brien in some way, shape or form since the late '90s. My older brother would record Conan's stuff on tape, and then bring it to me weeks later.

"Dude, you gotta see this dog, "Triumph," that's all like 'for me to poop on!' Dude, you have to see Conan have a staring contest with Andy, and Conan always cheats with like, two midgets pouring jell-o on each other behind him."

Just last summer, I showed one of those tapes to friends, and the the level of laughter hadn't decreased a bit. To this day, Conan is one of the funniest figureheads of television this side of "The Simpsons." Between the great writing, great use of celebs, and all around memorability of a bear masturbating in its diaper, Conan's a freaking genius. A shocker-red haired goon too, but a genius nonetheless. It's a shame about NBC ("nuttin' but cocks") and "The Tonight Show" being given back to Chin-zilla. Freakish fans like myself will miss Conan's exuberance and intelligence.

At least, we'll miss him until he kicks ass at Fox, or Comedy Central or Bar Mitvahs.

With that, I encourage you to watch his last "Tonight Show" episode tonight, and never watch it again. At least, till he's back. So because he was given only 7 months:

7 Reasons I'll miss Conan O'Brien on TV ... til he finds his next gig.

1. You can never put Coco in a corner.

2. His content was classic (stupid good). And better written than you'd think ... not that this clip exemplifies grand writing or anything...

3. Conan got great mileage from his guests.

4. Unlike Jay's band, Conan tied with Dave for quality and comradery in his band.

5. Conan really hated old people.

6. Andy Richter was a game and gifted sidekick.

7. Conan O'Brien is a consumate entertainer and performer.

See you soon Coco.

Post Stuff: "Cute Animal Theater"

More evidence of Coco O'Brien's genius:

Post Stuff: Conan, Classical

In 1999, My older brother introduced me to Conan and his Late Night program.

I miss Conan on Late Night. I miss pre-neuter Conan. But, I'll always dig him.

Post Stuff: Jay Leno - Corporate Shill

Hate is such a strong word.

So, fuck Jay.

Bonus: I just found this on the Team Coco Facebook page.

Update: Damnit.

Post Stuff: Conan, A Barbarian

Given the shit NBC and the chin have been pulling, Conan has every reason to get into a redheaded fury.

Or, at least, let Jim interpret Coco. Then it's hilarious.

I die at about 1:10, every time.

Post Stuff: In Defense of Conan & Andy

If they just showed an inkling of the kinda bromanticism on display in this relatively recent interview video, "The Tonight Show" could maybe, possibly, not probably still have a chance in hell.

Hang in there CoCo.
